Presentation made by Past District Governor Mark C. Hegstrom:

The 2016-2017 Presidential Citation is an award that is issued by the Rotary International President to Rotary Clubs who have demonstrated excellence in “Rotary Serving Humanity.” Last year, District 5950 with 62 Rotary Clubs, only 4 clubs were able to achieve this prestigious recognition. The Presidential Citation requires Clubs achieve excellence in several areas that have been laid out by last year’s RI President John Germ.  There are six areas that clubs needed to demonstrate achievement.

I would like to briefly highlight just a few of the accomplishments your club achieved in 2016-2017:

In the area of…
Public Image  Edina Morningside Rotary Club hosted an event to inform the community about Rotary and its Foundation’s Centennial, and got local media to cover outstanding club projects.

In the area of…
New Generations  Edina Morningside Rotary Club co-sponsored an Interact Club, and led the way in a record breaking attendance at Camp Enterprise with more than 120 students!

In the area of…
Humanitarian Service  Edina Morningside Rotary Club partnered with at least five other clubs to enhance the scope and visibility of a Rotary Project.

In the area of…
Online Tool Adoption  Edina Morningside had at least 50% of its members identify their skills and interests in the My Rotary profiles at the Rotary International website

In the area of…
Foundation Giving  Edina Morningside Rotary Club attained at least $2,650 in total giving to Polio Plus and supported The Rotary Foundation with a record-breaking five-year high giving total of more than $41,000 to the Annual Fund and made a huge impact on the success of the Rotary Foundation’s 100 years Centennial Celebration

And, In the area of…
Membership Attraction & Engagement  Edina Morningside Rotary Club not only experienced 100% retention, but also achieved a net gain of a record-setting 25 New Members into Rotary!

Edina Morningside is a Rotary Club that is truly in a class of its own.  The club excelled at creating a sense of vibrancy, motion and emotion that attracted and engaged members all year long.  A club is great because of its members, and its leaders.  Last year, Past President Tom Gump established himself as a humble, enthusiastic, vibrant leader whose energy was naturally attractive and uniquely successful, who set out to lead the club in “Great, on Purpose!”

And so let it be known, I, Mark C. Hegstrom, on behalf of John Germ, the 2016-2017 Rotary International Past President, as Past District Governor for District 5950, it is my unique honor and immense pleasure to be able to award to the Edina Morningside Rotary Club, and Tom Gump as its President, the Presidential Citation!
