NOTE FOR SUSAN LUND
As many of you know, EMRC member Susan Lund is out on medical leave.
She is having hand surgery, already performed more than once, redone to allow better use of her hand.
I sent a note to her from the Club.
Here’s her reply.
Hi Mary,

Happy New Year!   I hope you had a wonderful holiday.
Thanks for your thoughtful note.

Doing well, thanks. I will know more the first or second week of March after surgery. It will be easier to type and write when my thumb bends. : )

Please send my greetings to the team.
Have a great week.

Sincerely,
Susan

CONDOLENCES MAMIE AND BILL

Our condolences to Mamie Segall and Bill Sierks, with the passing of Mamie's mother Shirley Daskow.  Shirley who was born on May 18, 1926 and died peacefully on Jan. 1, 2020, was the youngest of the eight children, and the only child of Harry and Bella Wasserman who were Jewish immigrants from Russia.   Please read the the wonderful story published about Shirley HERE, and keep Mamie and Bill in your thoughts and prayers.

WHERE IN THE WORLD?
Where in the world is Jim Warner?   Jim and Sandy are in Wellington, NZ and they found a Rotary connection!  Are there other Rotarian's around?  Does this count as a make up? :)

ON FIRE!
Here is a little Rotary history for those newer to the club.

Rotary began on February 23, 1905 when founder, Paul Harris, invited three Chicago businessmen to a meeting to share fellowship and networking to try and recreate a small town business environment in the big city. The concept began to spread quickly with a second club forming in San Francisco and others following in quick succession. Rotary became "International" on May 15, 1910 with the Rotary Club of Winnipeg, Manitoba, followed by clubs in London, Dublin and other countries. Today, Rotary has around 1.2 million members in over 400 countries and geographical areas.

Given the size of Rotary, it is organized in various levels. At the core of Rotary is the club, which can have anywhere from a few dozen to hundreds of Rotary members.

Each club belongs to a District.  Rotary District 5950 currently has 64 clubs in Minnesota  There are roughly 535 Districts in the Rotary world, which are then organized into Zones.  The Zones usually have around 18 Districts and there are 34 Zones.   Since that's still a large number, the Zones are paired in two's.  The paired Zones elect Directors who serve 2 year terms, with the selection alternating between the two Zones.  The 17 Zone Directors worldwide sit on the Board of Rotary International, along with the RI President.

We are in ZONE 29: USA (IA, IL, KS, MI, MN, ND, NE, OK, SD, WI), Canada which is comprised of seventeen districts: 5580, 5610, 5630, 5650, 5670, 5690, 5710, 5950, 5960, 5970, 6000, 6220, 6250, 6270, 6420, 6440, 6450.  We are paired with ZONE 25B: USA (TX) which has seven districts.

SALVATION ARMY
The Noon Club picked up a full week of bell ringing at Jerry's just before Christmas.   EMRC helped cover on December 19th, during a previously scheduled Edina Rotary Club Event.

Thanks to Paul Nelson, Carolyn Jackson and Rob and Karen Laughlin for ringing and collecting over $800 in donations that day!

Congratulations to our friends with the Noon Club for over $7,000 in donations this year and over $80,000 since 2010!   Note - numbers include matching donations.    Great work!
