About the JCRC:

THANKSGIVING BASKETS ASSEMBLY AND DELIVERY is an annual project of Edina Rotary Club. Edina Morningside Rotary Club partners with this project by donating items for the Thanksgiving baskets and joining together on the day before Thanks giving to assemble the baskets and delivery them to waiting families.
Typically, Rotarians and their families/guests assemble about 80 baskets!

True Friends Camp Courage in Maple Lake was the site of this year's Camp Enterprise. The Rotary Club of Edina and Edina Morningside Rotary Club hosted the three-day camp for 88 junior and senior high school students. The experience is designed to introduce students to the free enterprise system and encourage entrepreneurship and ethical business practices. Robb Breding of the Rotary Club of Edina was the Chair. Edina Morningside's Michael Birdman was the Co-Chair.
The camp began on Thursday, Nov. 2nd, and came to a close on Saturday, Nov 4th, when five $1000 college scholarships were awarded at the final presentation.
Congratulations to EMRC member Ted Goltzman who was married on November 4th. Ted and Jamie met in the athletic study hall area at Marquette University, where they were both Division 1 athletes (Jamie for soccer and Ted for lacrosse).
After college, Jamie moved to Minneapolis and started a career in the re-insurance industry. In May 2021 they were engaged and Saturday, November 4th they were married. Ted and Jamie are traveling in New Zealand for their honeymoon.
Patricia (Pat) Anne Schmitt, age 92 of Churdan, IA, mother of Edina Morningside Rotary Club member Steve Schmitt, passed away from cancer on Friday, October 27, 2023, at Accura HealthCare of Lake City.
Pat was born on November 10, 1930, to parents Aloysius and Anastasia (Cloonen) Richtsmeier in Iowa Falls, IA. She attended Catholic grade school in Ackley, IA, before moving to Wesley, IA, when she was eight. Pat graduated from Good Counsel Academy in Mankato, MN. She continued her education at AIB in Des Moines, IA, and studied secretarial training.
On August 21, 1954, Pat was united in marriage to Paul Cletus Schmitt at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wesley. This union was blessed with six children: Chuck, Tony, Kathy, Ken, Bill, and Steve. Together they raised their family near Adaza. After a few years, she started to do bookkeeping for the family farm and secretarial work for the Greene County Extension Service.
Pat had many talents and interests. She was a recital piano accompanist, and also won the spelling bee at the Greene County Fair! She liked to quilt, crochet, and travel. Pat and Paul spent many years traveling together across the country and around the world. Some of their favorites were their trips to Australia, and Alaska, and a cruise through the Panama Canal. She even enjoyed doing Mystery Bus Tours. Along with her hobbies, Pat was a member of the Adaza Thursday Club and also a 70-year member of Catholic Daughters of America. Pat was a resident of Cedar Township Greene County starting in 1954 until her move to Shady Oaks in 2023.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Chuck (Linda) Schmitt of Lohrville, IA, Tony (Teresa) Schmitt of Urbandale, IA, Ken (Angie) Schmitt of Carroll, IA, Bill (Jan) Schmitt of Alleman, IA, and Steve (Liisa) Schmitt of Minneapolis, MN; grandchildren: Kelly, Brittany, Stacey, Steve, Rosie, Luke, Lydia, Britni, Bryce, Morgan, Devan, Taylor, Erik, Lukas, and Patrik; 12 great-grandchildren: brother Dave Richtsmeier.
Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; daughter, Kathy; parents; and siblings: Alice Baciulis, Fran Engstrom, Jan Bauer, and Bob Richtsmeier.

President Afira Hasan's daughter Zoya was awarded the Mayor's Youth Commendation.
Tennis champion and Edina High School student Zoya Hasan has worked to bring a tennis clinic to economically disadvantaged kids and has launched two charitable initiatives with her brother Abid. Vision for All helps get eye care to those in need and Kits for Kids MN collects and distributes activity supplies to local kids undergoing surgery.
Rotary strives for the fair treatment and advancement of all Rotary participants. Embracing equity means carefully considering how to provide differing levels of support, opportunities, and resources so participants have a welcoming and productive experience.
When we embrace equity, we create an environment built on respect and dignity for all participants.
