SAVE THE DATE!
We want you to save the date for an exciting and engaging Edina Community Ed Adult Programming event this fall. On Thursday, October 9th from 6:30 to 9:00 pm we will be hosting a free docu-discussion centered around civic engagement. Mary Brindle has agreed to be our discussion moderator/facilitator.
Join or Die is a film on Netflix about why you should join a club — and why the fate of America depends on it. In this feature documentary, follow the half-century story of America’s civic unraveling through the journey of legendary Harvard social scientist Robert Putnam, whose groundbreaking “Bowling Alone” research into America’s decades-long decline in community connections could hold the answers to our democracy’s present crisis. Flanked by influential fans and scholars — from Hillary Clinton, Senator Mike Lee, Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and Surgeon General Vivek Murthy to Eddie Glaude Jr., Raj Chetty, and Priya Parker — as well as inspiring groups building community in neighborhoods across the country, join Bob as he explores three urgent civic questions: What makes democracy work? Why is American democracy in crisis? And, most importantly…What can we do about it?

While the event is centered around the film, our purpose is to encourage civic engagement. What better way to do that than to have a pre-show fair from 5:45 to 6:30pm. We hope that you will also stay for the screening and the discussion. As folks are arriving for the screening, they will have a chance to chat with you and learn about opportunities for civic engagement. We hope to see your table at our fair. More details and a sign-up link to follow.
