Foundation President Doug McElrath recently updated the Club on the Foundation activities. The EMRC Foundation was established in 1993 in order to allow members to make tax-deductible donations to the club and to serve as the fundraising/distribution arm of the club. This is necessary in order to take advantage of matching dollars from the district and Rotary International.
The club (EMRC) is responsible for:
- Organizing and running fundraisers
- Proposing a total giving budget
- Deciding how monies are spent (who gets what)
The Foundation is responsible for:
- Stewardship of fund assets
- Approving total giving budget proposed by the Club
- Does not decide how the monies are spent
- Fundraiser accounting (fiscally responsible and sustainable, and appropriate for a 501(c)(3)
